Young Chang

Young Chang, a piano manufacturer headquartered in Incheon, South Korea, was established in 1956. The founders were three brothers, namely Jai-Young Kim, Jai-Chang Kim and Jai-Sup Kim. Rapid expansion of the company leads to its larger market share globally, which include 50% of the Korean piano market. Besides building high quality upright and grand pianos, they also manufacture electronic Kurzweil Music Systems subsequent to its purchase of Kurzweil Music System, a producer of high-end electronic and digital musical instruments, in year 1990. Throughout the period since 1995, variety of new ideas on piano design is ushered in when Joseph Pramberger joined the company. Some examples of piano design are the “Platinum Touch Action” and the patented asymmetrically tapered soundboard. However, Joseph Pramberger passed away in 2003 and the name “Pramberger” can no longer be used by Young Chang.

Young Chang’s very own platinum series uses A-class northern spruce for soundboards, which bring forth first class sound transmission through the use of superior material in its key frame, back posts, soundboard and keyboard. The platinum series also come with the Platinum touch action, premium felt and Platinum blue hammers, delicately innovated dynamic structure of the Young Chang Dynamic Balance Platinum. The specialty of this series does not stop here. The Renner Hammer and Renner Action produced in Germany are applied upon the pianos to create distinct and beautiful music. It also has a Bridge undercut that endures a string tension of up to 400 pounds as it moves vibration to the soundboard, serves in maximizing volume. Besides, it is designed with an asymmetric tapered Soundboard to make the tone richer and sound more resonant. Sound ribs are crowned by machine asymmetrically. Lastly, the soft-glide piano feature is able to close the keyboard flap in a slow and gentle motion.

Professional Artist Series

The professional artist series are ideally suited for professional musicians stressing on the desire to convey their feelings to the music. This can only be fulfilled by sensitive touch and dynamic responses during their play. Hence, this series is equipped with spruce soundboards with the highest sound-transmission coefficient. The precise action is complemented by the action of the piano which is made up of 4500 parts and hard maple. Each individual part is also created with an error tolerance of 5/100mm. Moreover, only wood with low specific gravity and highly elastic can be used to construct the keyboards so as to allow pianist to experience a firm sense of touch. Hammers are adjusted to hit the strings in less than 1/250 of a second while pin blocks are made of 17-layer laminated panel to raise bearing power. Following that is the frames cast produced through the V-process construction method.

Y Series

This series consists of superior quality entry level pianos. It has 17-layer laminated panel to raise bearing stress of tuning pins and to ensure tuning stability. This factor helps when a piano is placed in a school auditorium or concert hall, whereby continuity of tone is highly emphasized. Other than that, Y series of Young Chang has the characteristics such as spruce soundboard, hard cutting aggraffes, maple pin board, hard maple Young Chang premiere action, Japan ambic hammer felt, vacuum processed cast iron plate and German Roslau wire.
