As early as 6 years old, a child is suitable to learn violin and instill his or her passion towards it. When it comes to choosing a suitable violin size, it is indeed imperative for a particular violinist, especially for a child. The suitable sizes are measured based on the length between your neck and your left wrist when your hand is fully extended and raised perpendicular to your body. Normally, for a child who falls within the age range of 6 – 7 years old, they need to choose the ¼ size of the violin. For 8 – 9 years old, ½ size of the violin will be suitable for them. For 10 – 11 years old, they need to choose ¾ size of the violin. As for those children around 11 years old, they can use the full- sized violin.

Violin examination is under ABRSM, which consists of 8 grades in total. Students need to take note of the new syllabus as it is valid till January 2012. For the natural minor scale candidates in grades 1 and 2, they may need to present the natural minor form for their set minor scale(s) in place of harmonic forms as applicable.

Learning how to play musical instruments is a challenge, same goes to guitar. Guitar lesson is suitable for kids around 8 years old and above since their fingers will be strong enough to strum on the guitar that time. Moreover, choosing the right size of guitar at different age stages is vital. For a child, a guitar of normal size might be too large for them as they cannot reach out to the specific chords. Not to worry-Robinson Music Centre is the solution in this matter! They will certainly give you advice and find the suitable size of the guitar for your child.

There are many types of guitars which consist of electric, acoustic, classical, and base. The technical approaches such as playing the notes, chords, and scales are slightly different, depending on the type of guitar you use. This simply means that if you are good in playing acoustic guitar, it doesn’t mean that you can play well in base guitar since the style of playing each guitar is very different.

When it comes to examination, guitar examination is ranged from Grade 1 to Grade 8. Each student will receive the ABRSM certificate after he or she passes the examination. In terms of assessment, the examiner will assess the accuracy of notes and rhythm, the quality and projection of tone, tuning, posture, hand positions and articulation. Any systematic fingering that produces a good result can be accepted. Sight reading and aural test will be parts of the exam as well.

In the olden days, pipe organ is used in church most of the time for praising and worshipping purpose. However, those organs are further improved and used in the musical industry. Talking about electronic organ, it usually has 2 levels of keyboard combined with pedals. Yet, some organs have more than 2 levels of keyboard. Besides playing on the keyboard, some organs also require your feet to step and play with the pedal, which will then produce bass sound. Piano, keyboard and organ may look the same to you but the way they produce sound is totally different. Organ and keyboard need to be plugged with electricity in order to produce sound. Besides that, organ and keyboard can also produce different types of sound other than piano. With the advancement of technology, organ and keyboard have various features which include recording and changing of pitch and sound. This definitely can project an innovative and creative mind since you and your child can play a song with more musical instruments at once.

The technics certificate will be given to students who pass the organ examination while Trinity certificate will be given to students who pass the Keyboard examination. There is a total of 8 grades in organ examination. In the examination, electronic organ will be used most of the time. The examiners will assess the accuracy of rhythm, notes, and others such as phrasing, articulation, suitable choice of tempo, control of touch and control of the pedal itself.
